Fraud Protection

AIT and Other Threats

The protection for our Partners and their Customers from participation in fraudulent activity, whether knowing or unknowing, has been high in our list of priorities in recent years. Some fraud attempts are easier to spot than others but we will continue to be vigilant and offer advice and protection where possible.

If either we or our network partners suspect that your account is generating fraudulent revenue or shows signs of AIT (artificially inflated traffic) activity, your account will be flagged for review and you will be asked to provide evidence that your traffic is genuine. During this time all revenue will be withheld. Such Evidence may include: contracts with publishers, publication invoices demonstrating that adverts were placed and in the public domain when your traffic was generated or copies of specific publications containing your advertisement.

Please also note that when providing proof of promotion, that we, or our partners may contact the publications in question to confirm your advertisement placement. ICC may also ask you to explain your call traffic flow from origination to termination in order to confirm the validity of the traffic.

“Fraud Traffic” is defined by Ofcom as follows:

1.1. …any traffic which British Telecommunications (“BT”) plc or any telecommunication carrier that transmits traffic to ICC Networks  or BT plc is unable to bill or collect, or where;
1.1.1. there is a reasonable expectation that the End User is not likely to pay their telephone bill because the calls are disputed as not originating from the telephone line for which the respective end user is responsible.
1.1.2. calls are being made to inflate payments due from ICC Networks , (known as Artificially Inflated Traffic, or AIT).
1.1.3. the income received by ICC Networks  is less than the rate given to the Customer, other than when caused by an administration or pricing error.
1.1.4. there is repeated calling from the same number, by repeated the parties mean continual or sporadic, or habitual, where it is proven there is a repeated pattern of an origination number dialling a premium rate number.
1.1.5. any traffic which is electronically generated by a computer or some other electronic software, or continually dialled from a human operated call centre.

ICC Networks will continue to work with Ofcom, BT or any other national supplier or termination partner in order to reduce the threat of AIT and to assist in the prosecution of any perpetrators of this type of fraud.
